Sleepwalking,
two ways.
The synth-led recording from our 2012 Wanderlust EP and the acoustic version we played for AltarTV.

For years, a lot of our songs started at Kipp’s piano. By the time we began working with John Fields and Bleu on Wanderlust, we’d been writing for roughly two years. Kipp and Fields shared a love of ’80s synths, and you can hear it right away on the EP. Play the second track, “Sleepwalking,” and the keyboards are out front with a beat that keeps the whole thing moving.
There’s something restless underneath that bright sound. Jon described the record in 2012 as a wake-up call about getting comfortable and giving up on things you wanted to do. We tried some of the songs on tour with He Is We, and he remembered “Sleepwalking” being one of the tracks that carried over well to a room full of people.

The AltarTV session
We played it acoustic for AltarTV’s Unplugged & Unrehearsed series. The change in arrangement makes the melody and Kipp’s phrasing easier to hear. If you remember the studio track, try the session and then put the record back on. That little change of order can make a familiar song feel fresh again.
